Trips to Zimbabwe

Little in life can be more exciting than the opportunity to take one trip or several trips to Zimbabwe!  This beautiful country is located in the southern portion of Africa – not to be confused with the country of South Africa, although that does surround the land locked country in the south.  In the southwest, it is bordered by Botswana; in the northwest, Zambia borders it; and in the east as well as the north, it is bordered by Mozambique.  So, as you can see, when you take a trip to Zimbabwe, you are well within reach of many other beautiful and exotic areas, so by no means will your vacation be limited.

There are many stunning natural sights to see in Zimbabwe, beginning with some of its spectacular regions.  For instance, there is Manicaland, Masvingo, the Midlands, Mashonaland, and Matabeleland.  Harare is the capital city of Zimbabwe, Beitbridge is right on the border of South Africa, and there is even a city of Winnipeg – quite different from the one you will find in Canada, to say the least!

One of the most popular destinations in Zimbabwe is the gorgeous Victoria Falls.  Tons of tourists frequent this destination, which can be found in the western portion of the country.  You can stay in Zambia and still get the most out of Victoria Falls as well, by staying in a place like Livingstone.  However, the city itself has plenty of accommodations.

Another popular destination is Great Zimbabwe, where you can from the archaeological remnants of an ancient Southern African city.  It was built of stone and, once upon a time, it was the very center of a huge empire – the Munhumutapa Empire, otherwise known as the Monomotapa Empire.  In its heyday, it covered all of the modern states of what we now know as Zimbabwe, as well as Mozambique.  The country of Zimbabwe actually got its name from this ancient city.

The Eastern Highlands are also extraordinarily gorgeous.  They are comprised of lush, fertile mountains with an overlay of hanging clouds, and they share a border with the country of Mozambique.  If you want to see the native wild life during your holiday in Zimbabwe, then you should head over to Kariba, home of Lake Kariba.  In addition to being an ideal place to see the wild life, it is also the largest source for hydro electric power in the country.
